A daily ritual, rooted in Tanzania.

From Tanzania’s biodiverse Kilombero Valley comes Thriving Tanzania, a 100% organic, single-origin ceremonial cacao curated by Cacao Voyage from Ora Cacao. This first ceremonial cacao from East Africa is grown amidst the laughter and close relationships of thriving village life.

Grown by smallholder farmers in a landscape of rice fields and banana crops near Udzungwa Mountains National Park, this cacao is fermented and dried by Kokoa Kamili with careful attention to quality. Its story connects the people who grow it, the landscape that sustains it, and the cup you prepare at home.

Made from minimally processed cacao beans and nothing else, this is pure, unsweetened drinking chocolate. No additives, no sweetener, just cacao for a warm, intentional pause in your day.

How to Use

  • Combine with hot water or your preferred milk and blend or whisk until frothy and smooth.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does ceremonial cacao contain caffeine?

Yes, ceremonial cacao naturally contains caffeine, approximately 30 mg per cup. It also contains theobromine, another naturally occurring stimulant, at approximately 212 mg per cup. Both amounts depend on how much cacao you use, so your serving size matters.

Does this ceremonial cacao have any added sugar?

No added sugar, just cacao. This ceremonial cacao is made with 100% cacao, with no other ingredients or additives. Think rich, deeply cacao-forward flavor rather than the sweetness of hot chocolate.

Is this ceremonial cacao tested for heavy metals?

Yes. Every ceremonial cacao we offer has lab test results for heavy metals. We know what’s in your cup matters, and we believe you deserve clear information about the cacao you choose.

Discover Ora Cacao

Discover pure, unsweetened ceremonial cacao, crafted by Ora Cacao in California and thoughtfully curated by Cacao Voyage. An invitation to slow down, savor an origin, and make each cup your own.

About Ora Cacao

Ora Cacao began with an afternoon of discovery in Teotitlán del Valle, Oaxaca. In 2012, Maria, a Zapotec elder, introduced Jonas Ketterle to traditional cacao preparation: roasting beans over an open fire, peeling them by hand, and grinding them into paste. That experience stayed with him, inspiring him to found Ora Cacao in 2014.

With a background in mechanical engineering from Stanford and a career in rural solar energy, Jonas brought both technical curiosity and experience connecting with communities abroad to his work. He designed and built Ora’s factory in Graton, California, where the team makes and packages its unsweetened ceremonial cacao in-house.

Today, Ora reports sourcing through direct-trade relationships with more than 3,000 small family farms across Belize, Colombia, Guatemala, India, Tanzania, and Uganda. Its approach centers on long-term partnerships, regenerative agroforestry, and farmer support through its Farmer Climate Resiliency Fund.

At Cacao Voyage, we appreciate Ora’s connection between thoughtful sourcing, careful craft, and the everyday experience of preparing cacao. Each cup offers an invitation to slow down, explore an origin, and approach the moment with intention and gratitude.
