Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Are your products ethically sourced?

Yes. Ethical sourcing is central to everything we do at Cacao Voyage. We source directly from Panamanian cacao farmers and are proud supporters of Survivor-Led Solutions (SLS), a nonprofit organization that ensures authentic survivor representation in all decision-making processes.

Is this a good bar for someone new to artisan chocolate?

Absolutely — this is a wonderful introduction to artisan chocolate. Unlike mass-produced bars, single-origin cacao is carefully fermented and dried at the source, which brings out naturally complex flavors without any artificial additives. You'll notice layers of taste that evolve as the chocolate melts, which is part of what makes bean-to-bar chocolate so special. If you're curious about where your food comes from and how craft makes a difference, this bar is a great place to start your journey.

Does this bar contain any allergens?

Please review the ingredient list carefully before purchasing. While this bar may not contain certain allergens as direct ingredients, it is produced in a facility that also processes common allergens, including tree nuts, dairy, soy, and others. As a result, cross-contact is possible and cannot be guaranteed against. If you have a severe allergy or sensitivity, we recommend consulting with your healthcare provider before consuming this product.

Does the flavor change as it melts?

Yes — and that's one of the most exciting things about craft chocolate. As the bar slowly melts on your tongue, different flavor notes reveal themselves in stages. You might notice a bright, fruity top note first, followed by deeper earthy or nutty undertones, and a long, clean finish. We recommend breaking off a small piece, letting it sit on your tongue, and resisting the urge to chew — you'll be surprised how much the flavor evolves.

An Introduction to Mahogany Chocolates

Born from a deep respect for Maya cacao heritage and Central American craft traditions, Mahogany Chocolate Ltd. is a vertically integrated tree-to-bar maker operating across Belize and Panama — committed to ethical farming, small-batch craftsmanship, and creating lasting economic opportunity for the farming communities at the heart of every bar.

About Mahogany Chocolates

Mahogany Chocolate Ltd. was founded in 2016 with a singular mission: to transform Central America's legendary fine flavor cacao into premium gourmet chocolate — and to do it the right way, from the ground up.

In Belize, Mahogany manages their own cacao nursery in Punta Gorda, selecting seeds from elite "mother trees" and individually cultivating each of their 75,150 trees across 167 certified organic acres in the Toledo and Stann Creek districts. Freshly picked wet beans are fermented in small batches at their centralized depot in San Antonio — allowing the unique micro-climate character of each farm to express itself in the final bar. Their program spans 204 certified organic farms and pays farmers directly, in cash, every harvest season.

In Panama, Mahogany crafts chocolate in Boquete, sourcing cacao from the biodiverse Bocas del Toro region — creating an authentically Panamanian expression of their seed-to-bar philosophy. The same Art of Cacao Science principles apply: proprietary nursery stock, individually managed trees, traditional 3-tier fermentation with passive solar drying, and hand-sorted beans professionally stored and ready for production.

Across both origins, every bar is 100% child and slave labor free — not as a marketing claim, but as the foundation of everything they do.

Cacao Origins

  • Toledo & Stann Creek Districts, Belize — Home of Belize's renowned fine flavor cacao, cultivated by Maya farming families for generations. Mahogany sources exclusively from their network of certified organic program farmers, ferments in small batch at their centralized depot, and processes entirely within Belize.
  • Bocas del Toro & Boquete, Panama — Single-origin Panamanian cacao crafted into chocolate in the highlands of Boquete, celebrating the hands and traditions behind every bar.

Community First Farming

Mahogany educates, assists, and monitors their local cacao farmers so families can focus on what they do best — growing exceptional cacao. Program farmers earn top-dollar for their beans, receive free seedlings from Mahogany's nursery, and benefit from a reliable cash market every harvest season. It begins with deep respect for Maya cacao culture and the traditional way of life that sustains it.

Environmentally Sound

Mahogany's Peini Cacao Plantation operates 107 acres of certified organic farmland, managed on an individual tree basis by a permanent on-staff team of cacao and agriculture experts. Their proprietary Art of Cacao Science principles ensure every tree is grown in an environmentally responsible manner — producing consistent, high-quality fine flavor cacao while protecting the Belizean ecosystem.

BridgingFarmers to the GlobalMarket

Mahogany's Bean Buying Program bridges local farmers and the global cacao market without sacrificing quality — across two countries. In Belize, 204 certified organic farms receive direct cash payments at harvest and free seedlings to grow their land. In Panama, Mahogany works in collaboration withBuenos Vecinos de Boqueteto support more than 30 Boquete families each year who lack the resources to sustain themselves — running ongoing donation campaigns and community programs rooted in the belief that every achievement is worth sharing. Behind every bar is history, dedication, and a commitment to doing things right.
